Words from our volunteers
“I enjoy volunteering on the desk in the drop in centre. I get a lot of satisfaction on meeting new patients, and seeing them leave the centre, happier than when they first arrived. I get a lot out of volunteering and being part of a team.”
Pat Phelps – Volunteer @ the drop in centre , Volunteer
“I volunteer with Cancer Aid as a driver, taking patients to hospital appointments. I enjoy meeting new people and providing a brilliant service, taking patients to hospital appointments, and taking the stress out of transport and parking for the patients so they can concentrate on their appointments.”
Howard Evans Volunteer driver
Our volunteer drivers are the backbone to our transport service. Their role involves picking up the client from their home, taking them to their hospital appointment and returning them home. All drivers are CRB checked. All transport appointments are kept strictly confidential.
Drop In Centre
The drop in centre volunteers are the first point of contact for our clients. This role involves answering the telephone, welcoming new clients. A volunteer is always present during the drop in opening hours, to make a cup of tea or have a chat.
Charity Shop Volunteers
The role in the charity shop is varied. Volunteers help out, by sorting through donations, pricing items and ensuring the shop is clean and tidy. They are also responsible for taking payments.
